5 Ways Suicide Squad Has Changed Since It Was Announced

1. The Reshoots

Reshoots aren't that big a deal. They're part of the process for every major Hollywood production and while occasionally something is seriously wrong at this point (shout-out to Kate Mara's wig), more often than not they're about refinement. To claim the existence of reshoots is a sign of trouble is a bit like complaining a film has to be edited: what, didn't they shoot everything in perfect takes?

But because the hype machine needs feeding, whenever an anticipated movie has reshoots, it's headline news with rumours of disaster or major change-ups. The word around Suicide Squad's lengthy reshoots was that it was to bring the movie more in-line with the tone of those trailers; allegedly all the jokes were in the Bohemian Rhapsody one and Warner were desperate to give the fans more. There's also the suggestion is was dealing with predicted Batman V Superman fallout (they were planned before that film hit, but the studio clearly knew which way the tide was going).

Now it's important to remember we can't take any of this speculation as gospel. Similar sources claimed there was a "no jokes" rule in the DCEU, something Batman V Superman proved wrong, and there's about five different reasons for Rogue One's recent reshoots. However, while everything said about the reshoots probably isn't true (the Blitz trailer, released during the reshoots, had plenty of new jokes), their scale suggests there's been some changes to the film. As for what, we'll have to wait until August 5th to find out.
