5 Ways That Marvel Destroyed Bruce Banner's Character In Avengers: Endgame

4. He’s Just The Same As Every Other Comic Relief Character Now

Take some of Bruce’s Endgame one liners and give them to Scott Land. The tone matches and they would be believable coming from Scott’s mouth.

Now think back to 2015, when both Avengers: Age of Ultron and Ant-Man were released. If you take some of Scott's lines from Ant-Man and give them to Bruce in Age of Ultron, it would be unthinkable.

Again, it's not that a character can’t change and become funnier, but it very much seems like this change was done for easy comedic value as opposed to actual justifiable character traits. Scott Lang is a funny by nature character, Bruce Banner, traditionally in the MCU, is not. And if he is funny, it's because of the dorky science guy traits he's established to have.

While Thor: Ragnarok was wonderful, it certainly paved the way for Endgame Bruce to let his goofier side flourish, but at least in Ragnarok he’s still dorky and awkward. In Endgame, his charismatic qualities are completely different. He doesn’t have any of the charming insecurity that made him so endearing and set him apart to the other Avengers in the early films.

He’s not perfect, and that’s great. Much like Tony Stark, he’s a highly flawed superhero, but Endgame completely shunned this in favour of making him another quippy one.
