5 Ways To Improve The X-Men Timeline

1. The Comic Books

Logan Xmen
Fox

Logan introduced their own X-Men comics into the film universe but also stated that not all the information contained within was true. This is probably the easiest way to dodge the continuity bullets of the past and any that should arise from the future. They could claim that there are stories set within the "comic" and some set outside of the comic, like Logan.

This appears to be the best option because they could place anything they wanted within the "comic" timeline and still acknowledge aspects of those events happening but wouldn't need to worry about upsetting anyone by not sticking to specifics of past iterations. The only problem that could arise is if they wanted it to be specifically a sequel to a previous film, like X-Men: Supernova or even the New Mutants film. But this could be solved easily by simply diving into the comic in the film's beginning or even including it within the opening credits. Regardless, if the "comic" timeline is established, then if they ever are to contradict themselves again, viewers can just write that off of as it's another comic and go with that particular story.

This could also help with any potential recasts for the future of the franchise. For as much as many fans may not want to see it happen, Wolverine's eventual recast may very well be inevitable. And if this is the case, then they could possibly loosen up slightly on the matter of matching Jackman because this could be a completely different take on him inside the comic book. And an easy answer for why he doesn't look exactly the same anymore is that a different artist could be "drawing" that issue in the film. The comic options would solve a lot of issues and you wouldn't even need to devote a whole movie to it, just a few nods.
