50 Greatest Action Movies Of All Time
29. The Raid 2 (2014)
It would have been too easy for Gareth Edwards to replicate the winning formula of the original when it came to making The Raid 2. Instead, the Welsh director aims to create The Godfather of martial arts movies and while he doesn't quite pull it off, he comes admirably close.
The story picks up moments after the first movie finishes, and plays out over years, weaving in a hefty amount of world-building and plot points in the process. However, when it comes to the action Edwards again shows himself to be one of the best in the business; from Baseball Bat Man and Hammer Girl to an insane car chase/fight scene, The Raid 2's set-pieces are bigger, bolder and more inventive than its predecessor.
