50 Greatest Action Movies Of All Time

14. Bullitt (1968)

Crank 2
Warner Bros.

Bullitt's avoidance of police procedural cliches, preference for location shooting (with San Francisco as important to the plot as any character) and focus on grounded action and increasing suspense helped modernise the Hollywood cop movie, as well as providing one of the 1960's most exciting movies.

Although still best remembered and rightly lauded for its epic 12-minute car chase that is still regarded as one of the best ever put to film, Bullitt is much more than that; an equally tense and entertaining action thriller that sees Steve McQueen at his cool and charismatic best.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
