50 Greatest Horror Movies Of The 21st Century
18. The Invisible Man
Plot: While recovering from an abusive relationship, Cecilia (Elizabeth Moss) finds herself being stalked by a terrifying, invisible force.
The finest horror film of the 2020s so far is Leigh Whannell's amazing The Invisible Man, that rare reboot that works on pretty much every level.
This removes the supernatural elements of the old story and reworks it into a nightmarish, endlessly suspenseful techno-thriller which also makes for a hugely disturbing meditation on domestic violence. Admirably, alongside all those incredible set-pieces the film does a great job of meditating on this terrible problem which is prevalent all throughout society, and Elizabeth Moss' lead performance is a superb representation of trauma too.
There's a certain scene that is among the most shocking, startling horror movie moments in recent memory, but the entire film will stay with you for days and days. It really is that good.
