46. I Can Do That - A Chorus Line
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_nZRjGKIbfM There are a lot of good songs from A Chorus Line, particularly the show-stopping finale, One. But I Can Do That is such an enjoyable, goofy little number that never gets much attention from anybody, that it seemed important to include it here. The mysterious director has asked all of the dancers to share something about themselves, and Michael is telling the story of how he started dancing because his older sister was taking ballet and tap lessons. It's a really awesome way to showcase the old-school, slapsticky comedic number executing superbly by a uniquely talented dancer. Charlie McGowan (who sadly died a little over a year ago) knocks it out of the park in an impressive display of youthful vigor and bravado. 45. On The Street Where You Live - My Fair Lady
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YtbFwWkB4b8 On the Street Where You Live doesn't have an extravagant dance number to go along with it, like so many other musicals from the early 1960s. It's just a sweet, earnest song from a man who doesn't even need to see his beloved, he's just happy walking down a street knowing that it's her street. At this point in My Fair Lady, Eliza Doolittle (played charmingly by Audrey Hepburn) has been trained to convince the world that she's a upper-crust lady when really she's a Cockney flower seller. Freddy is smitten by her lower-class anecdotes, which are so far away from the world that he knows that they're exciting in their novelty. He strolls down the street, acting foolishly and deliriously in love, and his plaintive wonderment at the beauty of the street where she lives makes it impossible not to be won over by his antics.
