When the then-little-known Hugh Jackman was cast as Wolverine for the first X-Men movie in the year 2000, eyebrows were raised. His physical stature was nothing like the diminutive but broad hero from the comic books and the fact that he was hardly A-list at the time didn't help at all.

However, he has gone on to become the star of the franchise, appearing in all seven movies to date (albeit merely in a cameo in Days of Future Past) and portraying both the caring/brave side of Wolverine just as well as the rabid/aggressive side. While his performance isn't as refined as the veteran actors in the franchise, he has still been undeniably brilliant.
