50 Greatest Star Wars Movie Moments
39. R2-D2 Lights Super Battle Droids On Fire - Episode III
That classic little R2 unit, always proving to be the best-made droid in the galaxy. R2-D2 is like WALL-E on steroids. While he might not have quite as much in personality, he still manages to become a lovable character while not saying anything at all. Not to mention that the little guy is pretty good in a fight. What he doesn't have in brawn, R2 makes up for in having clever components. In Revenge of the Sith, when he is found by two Super Battle Droids, R2 hoses one of them down with oil, causing them both to slip. The he ignites his small rocket boosters, causing the oil to catch flame. The two battle droids burn. Did anyone else ever realize that R2-D2 was such a BAMF?38. Anakin Goes Ballistic - Episode III
"I killed them. Not just the men, but the women and children." Alright-ty-then, Darth Whine-and-Creepiness. In the archives of LucasFilm does there exist lost footage of Anakin killing the sand people? Just about another five minutes of him stepping outside that tent with his lightsaber and furiously annihilating the whole village. They got to the editing room floor and the whole scene was in the movie exactly as written in the script. The Editor lays a hand on Lucas' shoulder as they watch the cut: "Um... George."
Just kidding. In all seriousness, though, Anakin's downward spiral into the dark side is pretty chilling to watch, especially in Revenge of the Sith. However, once he's done being evil and creepy he usually just goes back to whining, which doesn't make him seem as powerful as much as it makes him seem like a pathetic teenager with an attitude problem. "It's all Obi-Wan's fault!" Sure, grow up kid - you got twins on the way. How many guys out there would love to have a girl like Padme in their lives? Not only is she gorgeous, but she also just happens to be the most understanding woman in the galaxy.37. Jar Jar Binks Destroys The Galaxy - Episode II
Okay, I apologize, but this just has to be included. While realizing that this is supposed to be a list dedicated to the fifty best moments of Star Wars, I truly feel that this moment deserves mentioning, but at the same time, has to be commented on for being just a little silly. When it becomes apparent that the senate will not be able to hold back the power of the Separatist movement, Padme tells the infamously ever wise and articulate (cough!) Jar Jar Binks, now a senator of Naboo (?), to suggest extreme emergency powers be granted to none other than Chancellor Palpatine. Everyone knows what happens next. Palpatine uses his power to take over the galaxy and end the lives of many innocent people. So in a way, the one and only Jar Jar is responsible for destroying democracy for the entire galaxy or at least lending the emperor a strong helping hand in his rise to tyrannical power. Way to go Jar Jar. Guess I can't be too hard on him, though. I mean the whole senate did listen to this guy... Who would listen to this guy? Who could even take him seriously? I smell a plot hole. It still deserves to be on this list. The way Palpatine accepts Jar Jar's idea is just so devious. "I love democracy," he says, so clearly full of it.36. Sideous & Vader Look Upon the Death Star Being Built - Episode III
Revenge of the Sith is easily my favorite of all the prequels. It's not only the dramatic tension and brisk action sequences that it has plenty of, but also all the tie-ins included that bring the story full circle to Episode IV. At the very end of Episode III the Jedi have been destroyed and the new galactic empire has been established. While Padme gives birth to Luke and Leia, what is left of their father Anakin has become transformed into the evil Darth Vader. He and the Emperor stand on board his flagship Star Destroyer, looking out the windows of the ship's bridge at the construction of the Death Star. It is perhaps the biggest tie-in in the whole movie. The Empire officially looks the way they did in the original trilogy and not like the clone troopers. Also, did anyone else see a younger Grand Moff Tarkin strutting away from Vader's side on the bridge?35. The Battle for Geonosis - Episode II
This one is a compliment depending on how you look at. About halfway through watching Attack of the Clones for the first time at the theatre, I leaned over to my Dad and whispered: "What do you think?" He replied: "It's okay." Then the last thirty minutes of the film happened on Geonosis. Afterwards, we stepped out of the theatre and my Dad commented: "Good movie." He liked how it ended.
Trying to say that endings in movies are the most importent part for an audience is something of a moot point, but with Attack of the Clones there practically wouldn't be any reason to watch at all if it wasn't for the arena fight between the Jedi and battle droids and the later battle with the clone troopers. Definitely made the movie for me.
