50 Infuriating Horror Movie Characters We All Secretly Wanted To Die
37. Friday The 13th Part VII: The New Blood - Melissa
No horror subgenre is more reliant on tropes than the slasher movie, and a big part of this is the cast of characters being hunted by the killer. They'll generally fall into various categories: the Final Girl, the Jock, the Mean Girl, the Sexually Promiscuous One, the Stoner, the Scholar, the Comic Relief, the one person of colour who never makes it to the end... you get the gist.
The Friday the 13th movies are perhaps the most trope-driven slasher films in this regard, and Jason's victims usually fall into those categories, at least to a degree. As such, you can be damn sure there are plenty of jerks across these movies. Nevertheless, Melissa (Susan Jennifer Sullivan) still lingers in the memory, which is a testament to just how hateful she was.
Bullying, manipulative, and cruel, Melissa spends The New Blood being horrible to the movie's vulnerable, troubled protagonist Tina (Lar Park Lincoln), mainly because the boy Melissa fancies prefers Tina to her. She then deliberately leads one of the male characters on before cruelly telling him she doesn't like him and was just trying to make her crush jealous.
Melissa isn't necessarily in the film all that much, but Sullivan made every second count and did a jolly good job in making your blood boil every time you see her. Still, you needn't worry. Friday the 13th films were always devoted to formula, and as you'd expect, Jason kills Melissa by the end.
