It's become all too easy to knock M Night Shyamalan projects after his fascinating drop from relevancy, but upcoming split personality thriller Split looks like a grand return to form for the gifted (but wayward) story-teller. In it he directs James McAvoy, gifting him the opportunity to play several dissociative personalities in one body and terrorise three kidnap victims along the way. He appears to have taken to it with relish.

Having already screened at a couple of fests, the film has picked up some pretty glowing reviews, with particular attention going to its Hitchcockian notes and intense thrills. That all sounds great to me.

Let's just hope there's not a twist that retrospectively devalues the entire film, eh?
