50 Most Anticipated Movies Of 2017 - Ranked

14. Jumanji

2017 Movies
Columbia Pictures

For a lot of fans, the very idea of remaking a film as beloved as Jumanji after the death of its even more beloved lead star was sacrilege of the highest order. But what nobody seems to acknowledge is that the original might have been entertaining, but it wasn't actually all that great. Critics didn't fall over themselves to love it and the CGI in modern terms now looks sub-Playstation quality.

So the remake isn't actually entirely unwelcome. And mercifully they didn't do anything as daft as try to replace Robin Williams directly. Or like, cast Jack Black. Goddamnit.

But let's give him a pass (he is capable sometimes), and look at the positives of the rest of the cast: The Rock is Hollywood's biggest box office draw, Karen Gillan is great and Kevin Hart is very funny. Adding them to a story as strong as Jumanji's (which has the potential for multiple sequels, really) is a great move, provided it doesn't turn out that the new twist on the story is that it's a bloody video game.

This definitely has the potential to be one of the biggest family hits of the year.
