7. Aquaman

2018 In Film
Warner Bros.

The current state of the DCEU might not be as set in concrete as it was just a year ago, but there are some certainties still coming, even with a new man at the helm of Warner Bros and a shake-up expected. Aquaman is one of those certainties, and given how well he emerged from Justice League (even though he was a little underused) that shouldn't come as too much of a surprise.

Introduced (briefly) in Batman v Superman, Jason Momoa's surf-bro rocker type was easily one of the stand-outs of the muggy ensemble, and the impressive underwater effects work should add even more hype to what could be a stunning, exotic charmer. And mercifully, we won't have to see those weird air bubbles again.

The stand-alone will deal with Aquaman's struggle with his birth-right and the expectations heaped on him as well as a threat to his underwater kingdom in the shape of old enemies, and the cast looks excellent. As long as James Wan manages to capture the right balance in story and spectacle, it should be a winner.
