5. Star Wars Episode IX

By rights, Star Wars Episode IX should be competing for the very top of the hype ladder, but it would be wrong to ignore the backlash the wider brand has seen in the wake of The Last Jedi (which has been ridiculously exaggerated) and Solo (which was more understandable since that film failed to justify its existence). It's still Star Wars and it's still the end of a trilogy millions of fans are invested in, but it's not quite a number one now.

Fatigue has also played a part, but you can't miss the appeal of JJ Abrams' return or the promise of an intriguing story (simply because predicting where it can possibly go next is damn near impossible). And this is the end of the Skywalker saga, so it's not like we're getting a follow-up to a single comparatively divisive movie.

Presumably we're going to get some rhymes from Episode VI, but there's so much scope for Abrams that he could do almost anything, which even the most cynical lapsed fans must concede is exciting.
