Easy though it is to scoff at Hollywood attempting to revive stagnant franchises by any means necessary, this direct sequel to 1992's Candyman has an uncommon amount of pedigree behind it, with Jordan Peele both writing and producing, while Nia DaCosta (Little Woods) directs.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II stars as the protagonist haunted by the titular entity, while Tony Todd will be reprising his star-making role of Candyman in some capacity.

Though few were asking for another Candyman movie, this has the sure potential to be a breakout hit that completely revitalises the defunct series.
