50 Most Exciting Upcoming Comic Book Movies - Ranked

14. Venom

Status: Not quite cancelled Due: It was 2017, it might now be never.Key Players: Nobody, other than Venom obviously. And maybe Spider-Man. Talent wise, unless you count Tom Holland, there€™s no-one. What€™s It About: Who knows. Some rumours have suggested the film - which was initially planned as aa 2017 release in Sony€™s initial shared universe plan - was going to pit Venom against Carnage. That€™d be good. Why We Should Care: If you need to ask why Venom deserves his own movie, or top villain billing in a Spidey movie, you€™re not paying enough attention. And though it€™s likely this stand-alone spin-off is probably dead, the fact that it hasn€™t yet been cancelled suggests very much that Sony are still thinking of something to do with the symbiote. Which is very good new.

13. Doctor Strange

Status: Filming Due: November 6th 2016 Key Players: Lots of very very exciting people. Benedict Cumberbatch is the bearded sorcerer, Tilda Swinton is the Ancient One, Chiwetel Ejiofor is Baron Mordor, and both Rachel McAdams and Mads Mikkelsen are in place without names yet. Horror helmer Scott Derrickson is directing. What€™s It About: After seeing his promising career left in tatters after a car accident, Dr Stephen Strange - a brilliant, arrogant surgeon - is reborn as a sorcerer supreme when a new mentor trains him to defend the world. Why We Should Care: The cast alone is insanely exciting, but the film represents an opportunity for the MCU to get more cosmic, following on from Ant-Man€™s introduction of the Quantum Realm. And while magical silliness didn€™t go so well for Constantine and Ghost Rider, with the right talent involved, there€™s a whole world of potential to mine.
