5. Munich (Steven Spielberg)
Gets Lost in the Shuffle Of: Schindler's List, Saving Private Ryan, Jaws, E.T., Jurassic Park, Raiders of the Lost Ark
Munich was by no means a box office failure, but it certainly didn't turn any heads and make a big impact, especially in comparison to Spielberg's other 2005 film,
War of the Worlds. However, it did grab a Best Picture, Director, and Writing nomination at the Academy Awards, and it's not hard to see why it was. It's an emotionally devastating, beautiful film that Spielberg was obviously passionate about. It's a radiant, taut picture that really illuminates why Spielberg has the reputation he does. If Tarantino's
Inglorious Basterds is a bit too out-there and in-your-face for your taste, try
Munich. It's also my favorite Spielberg picture.
"We are supposed to be righteous. That's a beautiful thing. And we're losing it. If I lose that, that's everything. That's my soul."
