6. Jack Sparrow - Pirates Of The Caribbean Franchise
We all love a bad boy with a heart and Johnny Deep's pirate captain is one of the best. With his drunken swagger, and inappropriate banter, he made even the weaker Pirates films enjoyable. He was certainly a character who you wanted to succeed, even when it meant the good people of Port Royal and the East India Trading Company lost out. Partly that's because there were far worse characters out there (the original ghostly Barbossa and Davey Jones) and because Jack was as committed to defeating them as the 'good guys'. Partly it's because those good guys were arrogant buffoons. It's also because Deep's performance is so mesmerising that you'll go along with whatever action he takes. It's the reason why, despite the law of diminishing returns that is the franchise, I'm still (probably naively) looking forward to Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales in 2016! However, there's something fundamental about Jack Sparrow's character people always seem to gloss over. He's a bloody pirate! Which means he's plundered, murdered (and more likely raped) his way across the seas to rise in power to the position of Captain of the Black Pearl. Certainly the way he lurches after Elizabeth Swan in the first film and casually shoots his victims (bad as they might be), suggests despite some measure of goodness, a disregard for human life and a take-all mentality are a much stronger part of his psyche. He's not the only character on this list that commits things so terrible, you'd be revolted if you knew them in real life. But he's possibly the most fund to watch.
