3. The Town of Sanford (Hot Fuzz)
Hot Fuzz is already a different shade of movie, as it's a complete homage to the works that exist before it. Shots are duplicated, characters just re-interpretations of others...the list goes on. But one thing that really works in the film's favor is the cavalcade of villains, neatly made up of the respected authority figures of Sanford as they plot and devise to keep their beloved hometown the best in England. A silly plot needs silly villains, and
Hot Fuzz adequately delivers as Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, and their team of police officers take on a Timothy Dalton headed community board in sword-fighting, shoot-em-up battles in the middle of town square. However, it's Jim Broadbent and Dalton who take the cake in their respective leads of the nefarious doings, both slyly falling into those action-cliches that villains so easily fit. However, they both really pack a comedic punch with their deliveries, and of course, the twist showing how everyone is involved certainly helped their standing, as well.
"My, my. Here come the Fuzz."
