6 Great Forgotten Off-Beat Film Villains

1. Benedict (Last Action Hero)

Easily the great and underrated Charles Dance's finest role, Benedict is a walking laundry list of action villain cliches wrapped up neatly in a well-spoken, Shane Blackian template. What makes the villain so unforgettable is not that he rises through the ranks as a glorified henchman before he shoots his employer with a "180, you stupid, spaghetti-slurping cretin...180! If I did a 360, I'd go completely around and end up back where I started! Trust me," but that his ultimate plan for world domination boils down to the fact that he plans on releasing classic movie monsters and villains into the real world just to prove the bad guys can win. He's funny, whip-smart, and even though he's a compilation of what we've been seeing for decades before, he's altogether fresh and still relevant. A fantastic character lost in a movie before its time, Charles Dance's Benedict is a worth addition to a list of forgotten villains.
If God was a villain, he would have been me.

Cameron Carpenter is an aspiring screenwriter, current film and journalism student, and self-diagnosed cinephile, which only sounds bad in certain circles. Devoted fan of comics, movies, theater, Jesus Christ, Sidney Lumet, and Peter O'Toole, he sometimes spends too much time on his Scribd and comicbookmovie.com, but doesn't think you're one to judge, devoted reader. You can follow him on Twitter to watch him talk to people you didn't know exist. Oh, and Daredevil is quite the big deal around here (my head).
