6 Movies That Predicted Horrific Disasters With Creepy Accuracy
2. 9/11 - Armageddon
A good many films prior to 2001 have been claimed to predict the fateful events of September 11th. Even the likes of Rugrats In Paris has conspiracy theorists shouting from the rooftops about inside knowledge or some kind of divine prophecy, but Michael Bay's 1998 disaster flick Armageddon has particular cause to make the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end.
To start off with, cab driver Stu mouths off casually about terrorist bombs holding up NYC traffic, only to be later found leaning out of his car window shouting "Saddam Hussein is bombing us!" as asteroids fall explosively from the sky. Perhaps it can be dismissed as passing satirical comments about the ever-present terrorist fear that was prevalent in America both then and now, but the oddities go further. As the asteroids rain down upon the city, one particular shot shows the World Trade Centre towers being struck particularly ferociously, going on to be depicted as heavily damaged and billowing smoke in a manner eerily similar to the real-life events that would take place just three years later.
Coupled with the countdown clock seen throughout the film, which hangs mysteriously at 9:11, it's no wonder audiences have become increasingly suspicious of the "coincidences" surrounding the blockbuster.
