6 Movies That Predicted Horrific Disasters With Creepy Accuracy

6. The Gulf Of Mexico Oil Disaster - Knowing

Knowing Nicholas Cage Explosion
Summit Entertainment

2009's Knowing, starring Nicolas Cage, fits snugly at the start of this list because of its subject matter. Cage comes into possession of a set of numbers which apparently reference world disasters set to take place in the future. Appropriately, the film seems to do exactly the same thing.

As the film opens, Cage is sipping a beer, the news headlines playing on the TV in front of him. All seems fairly innocent, until the newsreader details "an explosion on a soon to be decommissioned oil rig" which burned for three hours in the Gulf of Mexico.

Upon the film's release, the scene may not have seemed to be of much consequence, but the following year, on 20 April, real-life viewers tuning into the news headlines will have seen almost exactly the same news story: a real explosion on a real oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico.

The apparent prediction added fuel to the fire, so to speak, as suspicions of foul play surrounding the event were already running high. Reports of government negligence and cover-ups abounded, so did the film know something that you didn't?
