6 Musicians Who Gave Unexpectedly Great Movie Performances

3. Justin Timberlake As Sean Parker In 'The Social Network'

For all those who haven't seen the Social Network, it is essentially a fictionalised re-telling of the creation of Facebook- revolving around its chief creator Mark Zuckerberg. The screenplay, written by Aaron Sorkin, while laden with factual errors is one that seems to tell of the corruption that can pervade the most brilliant idea. This is represented in the film by Sean Parker- played brilliantly by Justin Timberlake. Timberlake plays Parker as a devil in a flashy suit- preying upon Zuckerberg's own insecurities to ingratiate himself as an integral 'ideas man' that Facebook simply cannot do without. Zuckerberg sees Parker as the geek who managed to become cool- something that for much of the film he wants nothing more than to be. However, while he sees this side of Parker he fails to see the lackadaisical unprofessional side that allowed Parker's other business ventures to collapse under their own weight. None of this would work of course if the person they got to play Parker was someone who didn't seem cool, but Timberlake manages to ooze cool in almost every scene that he is in. Indeed, it is his ability to make Parker's snake oil seem plausible to Zuckerberg that makes the second half of the film so much more tragic when Andrew Garfield's Eduardo Saverin finds out how he's been betrayed.
