6 Musicians Who Gave Unexpectedly Great Movie Performances
1. David Bowie as Andy Warhol In 'Basquait' Basquait is a movie that talks about art and one man's quest to be accepted both within the art world with his revolutionary painting and artworks as well as in the wider world, where he is still looked down upon due to his class and his race. It comes as no surprise therefore that Basquait's mentor, Andy Warhol has a major role in the film and he proves to provide one of the major plot points of the film when he dies. His collaborations with Basquait were the stuff of legend and there is no doubt that if the wrong actor was chosen to play Warhol then the whole film could have begun crashing down. While David Bowie had the advantage of actually knowing Warhol, that did not guarantee a great performance. What Bowie did though was manage to capture Warhol's famous eccentricities and quirks without making them seem like the pretensions of a arrogant artist. Instead, Bowie's portrayal is one of a fun, but vulnerable artist, whose genius is counteracted by his dependence on Bruno and a life of trying to avoid the public eye. It is a truly brilliant performance in a film full of great acting. So they are my 6. What are yours?
