6 Pixar Films Whose Endings Had Awful Consequences You Hadn't Considered

4. Finding Nemo

Nigel Finding Nemo is an excellent film about a clownfish attempting to find his son, who was kidnapped by an Australian dentist. Because this is a kids film, I don€™t need to tell you that after some obstacles, he proves successful. But it€™s what these obstacles involve which sets up our next troubling scenario. At one point near the end, Marlin thinks that Nemo is dead, having seen him belly-up in a plastic bag on the dentist€™s chair. Of course, we the audience know that this isn€™t the case €“ he€™s just pretending, and Marlin and his companion Dory find his son safe and sound later. But do you know who doesn€™t know Nemo€™s ok? Nigel the pelican, who actually got them into the office. Nigel seems pretty cut up about the whole deal at the time, earnestly apologising to Marlin before going on his way, extremely depressed. He doesn€™t know that Nemo got away, and for all intents and purposes, we never know if he finds out. The only creatures who could tell him what actually happened were the fish in the fishtank, but by the time the credits roll and after an unspecified length of time, they€™ve also escaped. So for all intents and purposes, Nigel doesn€™t actually know what€™s happened €“he doesn€™t know the tale had a happy ending, and he€™s also lost a couple of friends into the bargain. After all, it€™s not like the fish can come and see him €“ they€™ll get molested by the seagulls before they even get close. I suppose he could rely on the ocean€™s rumour mill again to find out, but the fact the story even got to him the first time was a remarkable coincidence.
