6 Reasons Brian Blessed Needs To Appear In A Modern Comic Book Movie

4. He Is Perfect For So Many Roles

Like we've already touched upon, any role that needs a conveyance of authority, leadership, might and power could be dominated by Brian Blessed - and any character that requires an extremely manly beard fits the bill on an aesthetic level. There are countless characters in comic books who fit this description, but the two that stand out as perfect for a potential Blessed portrayal are Marvel's Zeus and DC/Vertigo's Destruction of the Endless. Marvel have already delved in to Norse mythology with the big screen adaptation of Thor, which features legendary figures such as Thor himself, Odin, Loki and Frigga, so it's not beyond the realms of possibility that they might want to produce a big screen adaptation of their characters from Greek and Olympian mythology - and that could mean a Zeus casting call is required. Who better to portray the bearded master of the thunderbolt with the booming voice than our beloved Brian Blessed? Who else actually could?! If Marvel ever need to cast a Greek pantheon, Blessed is the only man out there who could do Zeus justice, that is just a fact, and it would be great to see a godly sit-down with Anthony Hopkins' Odin to discuss the universe. And then there's Destruction of the Endless from Neil Gaiman's Sandman title. Destruction has been purposely drawn to resemble Blessed and Gaiman himself has said that he would be a great choice to play him in a Sandman movie. Not as well known as someone like Zeus, Destruction is a member of the group known as the Endless - a group of beings who embody powerful forces or aspects of the universe and possess nigh omnipotence. However, far from being the being of pure evil that his name would suggest, he embarks on a journey of self-discovery by attempting to learn about his own nature and exert control over it. This is manifested in his deliberate attempt to subvert his own essential nature and create instead of destroy. He's a complex character who wears a musketeer-esq outfit (which just seems to scream "BRIAN BLESSED" in itself) and the veteran actor would own the role.
