Brad Bird is the closest thing big screen animation has to a Joss Whedon: Massively talented, yet still relatively unsung (despite winning 2 oscars), he is the man responsible for The Iron Giant, Ratatouille, and The Incredibles, as well as the best Mission Impossible film. While I was on tour at Pixar around 3 years ago, an animator claimed that "Everybody wants to make an Incredibles sequel. We're just waiting for Brad Bird to come back." Director troubles have been a recent issue with Pixar, after they gave Brenda Chapman the boot on Brave, and have shuffled the crew on their upcoming film The Good Dinosaur to no end (kicking dozens of employees in the process), but with Brad Bird they seem very confident in leaving the Incredibles franchise in his capable hands. This hopefully means that Incredibles 2 won't fall victim to the various production problems that have been befalling this great studio as of late, and remain attached to a singular vision.
Self-evidently a man who writes for the Internet, Robert also writes films, plays, teleplays, and short stories when he's not working on a movie set somewhere. He lives somewhere behind the Hollywood sign.
