6 Reasons Why Tom Hooper Should Direct The Justice League Movie

In Conclusion...

I've made a lot of assumptions on Hooper's behalf in this article. If he got the gig, which I'm aware is highly unlikely, he may act in exactly the opposite way to what I am predicting. But as a long-time admirer of his filmography and his methods, he just strikes me as similar to Nolan. I'm not saying he's like Nolan or he's the next Nolan. I'm not saying it because he's British, and I'm not implying that his approach would be dark, gritty and hyper-realistic. I'm saying it because he seems passionate, measured, intelligent and able to step back and look at a comic book property of this scale objectively, which is what I'd look for rather than a fanboy director. This is not backhanded stab at the likes of Joss Whedon- far from it. But Whedon's approach was as a writer just as much as it was as a director. Shane Black and Drew Pearce instilled their own imprint on Iron Man 3. Branagh may have been a Thor fan, but he was one of Britain's greatest actors as much as he was a director, and his passion for Shakespeare and theatre gave us a lot of pomp and circumstance that Comic Book Movies can sometimes lack. All these directors made superhero movies that worked commercially and critically because their approach was left-field. The majority of us never though they were suited for a studio-funded superhero epic. Look at every dull, generic comic book movie that's sucked- Green Lantern. Batman and Robin. Fantastic Four. Ghost Rider. Elektra. Jonah Hex. When they were announced, the first reaction was never "HUH? The Director is who?" That wasn't the only reason they failed, but the likes of Tim Story or Joel Schumacher or Mark Steve Johnson don't strike one as a filmmaker to shake up the genre and define a character with their unique flair. Nothing about Tom Hooper suggests he's right for this material. And that's exactly why I think he's a great choice. So, dear reader... thoughts? Comment below or tweet me @IAmOscarHarding. Am I right? Is Hooper the man to bring the Justice League to life?
