6 Underrated Crime Film Classics

Crime movies are one of the most popular and lauded genre of films, perhaps second only to drama. Any lists of great films are bound to contain crime classics- The Godfather, Goodfellas, Chinatown. But in this article I€™d like to talk about some classic crime movies that aren€™t as popular as the examples I gave earlier. These are great films in their own right, but have not received the attention or awards. Perhaps crime movies are always popular because they allow us to live out our dark thoughts. Why are gangster films forever popular? Because of that thought- I wonder what it would be like not to be a nice guy/not have to work 9-to-5/to do bad things. And why do so many gangsters die at the end? So we can feel better. Sure it seems like a nice idea- but look what happens to them at the end. On the other side there€™s the detective movie. That€™s the classic archetype of the quest seeker. The character of private eyes and detectives have their roots in the ye olde knights on daring quests. We follow a detective, both in their shoes and outside- getting the clues as they do, and trying to figure the mystery out before they do. So here, in chronological order, are some hidden (probably stolen) gems of the crime genre:
