It’s a very divisive subject as to whether 50 Cent can really be referred to as an actor but detractors and naysayers would do well to remember such cinematic gems such as Gun, Get Rich Or Die Tryin and… Oh right.

While he has undoubtedly matured as a performer since then, that isn’t to say that the projects he chooses are always on the money. Case in point, All Things Fall Apart is pitched to viewers as a highly emotional look at the destructive nature of cancer but anyone watching it will be too distracted by Jackson’s skeletal appearance to remember much of what goes on.

By attacking a juice diet and pretty much living on a treadmill for nine weeks, he certainly nailed the look of someone with a life-threatening illness. The problem is that despite these efforts, nothing else stacked up. The performances lacked the depth of the subject matter which, when coupled with some serious pacing issues, made the movie difficult to sit through.

Despite attempts to tackle a challenging topic, the legacy of All Things Fall Apart will be ‘that movie where 50 Cent lost all the weight’. It’s clear that the movie is a very personal project for Jackson which makes it all the more disappointing that, while undeniably emotional, it isn’t particularly memorable.
