1. Calvera - Benicio Del Toro
A hero is only as good as their villain and in the 1960 original they had a great bad guy. The indomitable Eli Wallach brought all his expertise into bringing Calvera to life and infused him with an oily charm. For the remake I was torn between Javier Bardem and Benicio Del Toro. Bardem has left two indelible villainous imprints on the cinema going public recently with his turns in No Country For Old Men and Skyfall but Del Toro is fast becoming one of Hollywoods forgotten talents. He was the best thing in Savages and a role like Calvera would suit Del Toros rough menace rather than Bardems polished threat which is why he gets the nod to round out the cast.
