7 Actresses Who Were Almost Wonder Woman

Back in the mid-2000s, a post-Buffy, pre-Avengers Joss Whedon was tasked by DC and Warner Bros. to put together a Wonder Woman movie.

Of course, with Whedon at the time being heavily associated with a certain teenage vampire slayer, Sarah Michelle Gellar's name was the one being chucked around the rumour mill to play the titular Diana role.

However, it has been revealed since how Whedon had someone else in mind when penning a story that would have been delivered more from Steve Trevor’s POV. His Wonder Woman of choice would have been Angelina Jolie, drawing comparisons to how she flies around working in different countries and has show how appalled she is at the way people treat one another.

With recent accusations about how Whedon treated Gal Gadot on the set of Justice League, plus a leaked first draft script that many feel was overly-sexualized, it's probably for the best that Whedon departed that project when he did.

Those who long to see Angelina play a sword-swinging, tiara-wearing comic book badass with connections to ancient mythology shouldn't be too disheartened. Your weirdly specific cravings will soon be satisfied when Jolie finally assumes the role of Thena in Marvel's long-awaited The Eternals.
