3. Jonathan Pryce As Elliot Carver - Tomorrow Never Dies (1997)
Jonathan Pryce is an actor who I love to watch in whatever film he is in. And this is no exception. He plays Elliot Carver as well as anybody. But like the rest, that didn't save this villain from being on the list. I just don't buy the premise that is laid out for his being a villain in a Bond film. Or any film. Yes the news media has gone to sh*t recently, but this is a bit far fetched even for this franchise. And there is one serious flaw in the plot of this movie. If Carver is successful in his plans, his reward for success is null and void. Let us think this through. For the purpose of gaining ratings and a monopoly on broadcast rights in China, Elliot Carver is willing to start a nuclear war between China and Britain. This would inevitably lead to a third world war as the USA and Russia and India and Carver's own Germany etc. etc. etc. would get pulled in. Broadcast rights don't mean crap if the world is engulfed in a nuclear winter. Or even if it doesn't go that far, Carver still plans on launching a nuclear weapon at China as the catalyst. For a villain who is supposed to be a genius, he is rather f**king stupid. China is going to turn against him pretty quick if he NUKES them. On another quick note, how does no one except Bond realize Carver is up to something when he prints things in newspapers before they happen? The enormous size of the plot holes in this film are astounding. Once again the filmmakers missed the mark and the gave a great actor a role with no where to go.
