5. Constantine Can't Smoke On TV

DC ComicsDC ComicsThis may not seem like a big deal for those unfamiliar with Hellblazer comics... but it's been revealed that John Constantine will not be allowed to smoke on his upcoming NBC series, due to the network's rules and practices. To those who may not know, Constantine's chain-smoking habit is a huge part of his character. There's a reason that just about every image of the supernatural detective shows a cigarette hanging from his mouth, and a show without that emphasis on his addiction may anger the core fanbase. Hell, even the 2005 Constantine film starring Keanu Reeves - which got a lot of things wrong - managed to keep his smoking intact. Now, that's not to say that this show will suddenly suck because Constantine can't light a cigarette on screen. Chances are the writers will find new and clever ways of hinting at his habit without showing it... but we'll see how that goes. This also truncates some great character stories they could tell in the future, because Constantine's battle with cancer following his chain smoking is a defining element of Hellblazer. But, I guess we'll just have to wait until the Fall to see how it's handled.
