7 Directors Who Went To Extraordinary Lengths To Fix Past Mistakes
3. Ridley Scott Killed Off Shaw And Made Covenant Much More Alien-y
Ridley Scott is never happy, is he? The other big franchise of his career has spawned even more headaches than Blade Runner, with the most recent being his 'prequel' series that started with Prometheus.
While that took a more philosophical approach to things and attempted to look at why we are here, the end result wasn't entirely successful, especially not to people who went in expecting a true Alien prequel.
As a result, Scott made a sequel that tried to bridge the gap between Prometheus and Alien, but largely undid a lot of the former. Out went Damon Lindelof; Noomi Rapace's Elizabeth Shaw, ostensibly lead of the franchise based on Prometheus, was unceremoniously killed off, and so too were the Engineers. In came a Xenomorph, a Neomorph, and a far more concentrated effort on making this a 'true' Alien movie. If not for Michael Fassbender's David, it'd be like Prometheus never happened. Which is what Ridley Scott wants, apparently.
