7 Dumbest Things We Saw In 2013's Films So Far

4. The World Leader Scene (G.I. Joe: Retaliation)

It could be a fantastic piece of protest art detailing the ridiculousness of mutually assured destruction. Or it could be a really, really stupid scene that disgraces the rest of the film. Obviously, it€™s the latter.

It€™s just crazy. There€™s a summit for the world€™s eight nuclear powers and the fake US president sets off America€™s nukes by pressing a button inside his nuclear briefcase. This makes all these other world leaders panic and set off their own nukes, before seeing him destroy his and so having to follow suit so that they don€™t annihilate the world (oh so humorously, North Korea hesitates before aborting his). Although this concept is surprisingly interesting, it is just the most absurd nuclear plot ever seen. How very convenient that these leaders can literally just press a button that they can carry round with them without consulting anyone else from their government who would probably be pretty angry about either eventuality here, whether it€™s starting a war or losing all their hoarded nuclear weapons. This scene just ruins any credibility the film had managed to cling onto.
