7 Great Mysterious Strangers in Movies

5. "Driver" from Drive (2011)

Another "Driver" on the list comes in the form of Ryan Gosling's reserved, seemingly bipolar get-away, movie stunt driver, which not only makes for a fantastic character, but an awesome sentence to type. Driver gets by with jobs as a mechanic, Hollywood stunt man, and highway escape artists before becoming emotionally involved with the petite and alluring Irene (played by Carey Mulligan). But his identity remains in the shadows the entire film, as just when you've become used to the elevator skull-bashing and bullet-hammering protagonist, the film ends with a wisp, leaving viewers longing for Gosling to take up another adventure in the scorpion jacket.

"How 'bout this? You shut your mouth. Or I'll kick your teeth down your throat and I'll shut it for you."

Cameron Carpenter is an aspiring screenwriter, current film and journalism student, and self-diagnosed cinephile, which only sounds bad in certain circles. Devoted fan of comics, movies, theater, Jesus Christ, Sidney Lumet, and Peter O'Toole, he sometimes spends too much time on his Scribd and comicbookmovie.com, but doesn't think you're one to judge, devoted reader. You can follow him on Twitter to watch him talk to people you didn't know exist. Oh, and Daredevil is quite the big deal around here (my head).
