7 Harry Potter Villains Who Weren’t In Slytherin

Those in Slytherin weren’t the only evil characters in the Harry Potter series...

J.K. Rowling created many wicked villains for her best-selling fantasy series. In addition to the main antagonist of the story – Lord Voldemort – Harry had to face a number of nasty individuals throughout his adventures at Hogwarts and beyond.

For the most part, these villains were sorted into Slytherin when they first arrived at Hogwarts. Bellatrix Lestrange, Dolores Umbridge, the Malfoys, and the Dark Lord himself were all members of this infamously villainous house. This is understandable given Salazar Slytherin’s emphasis on power, ambition, pride, and the purity of blood.

However, not all Slytherins were evil. The overwhelming majority did not support Voldemort and his followers. And certain individuals – such as Severus Snape, Regulus Black, and Leta Lestrange – were some of the bravest characters in the entire wizarding world.

What’s more, the other three houses were not devoid of nasty characters by any means. Those in Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw were perfectly capable of being villainous from time to time. Whilst most of the villains from outside of Slytherin weren’t the most prominent of antagonists, they still caused plenty of difficulties for our heroes…

7. Zacharias Smith (Hufflepuff)

Though he was a member of Dumbledore’s Army (a group who made it their mission in life to resist Umbridge and learn defensive spells), Zacharias Smith was a nasty individual full of spite.

He was an irritant from the moment he appeared in The Order of the Phoenix. During the DA’s first meeting in the Hogshead, he sneered at Harry’s story about Voldemort’s return and was sceptical about how Cedric had died. Zacharias continued to be the most unpleasant member of the DA and was often critical of Harry’s teaching methods.

To top it all off, Zacharias became a Quidditch commenter in The Half-Blood Prince and took the opportunity to verbally abuse the players. He was particularly nasty to Ron and Ginny and suggested they were only on the team because Harry liked them.

Whilst it would be wrong to describe Zacharias as evil, his constant taunting and his mean-spirited personality made him one of the most insufferable individuals in the Harry Potter series.
