7 Important Biopics That Were Derailed By Massive Problems

4. The Aviator

Leonardo DiCaprio strikes back. Again, he does a tremendous job in bringing a mammoth of a historical figure to life, but the film was somewhat disjointed. Rather than humanising him we were treated to sensationalist shots of Hughes urinating into jars and precisely counting how many peas he was given at meal times. Hughes was a man who constructed the Hercules aircraft, a plane still used to this day. Stan Lee supposedly based Tony Stark on Hughes, yet the Hughes we see is an introverted genius, lacking flair and flamboyancy. Just like J Edgar, the directors assumed we know the story and acts as if we as an audience know where the film is going. Not everyone does, and this makes for a disjointed movie filled with confusion and second guessing. Although Di Caprio delivers a painfully personal portrayal, the movie fundamentally failed to engage us.
