Its pretty obvious that Burton was trying to create some sort of strange universe populated by these interesting and allegedly complex characters, and because of this the idea of any sort of realism or even logic behind how these characters were formed wasnt exactly necessary. And thats fine Catwoman for example was a character called Catwoman. That is pretty ridiculous just by itself. But that doesnt mean they had to be just flat out lazy with the origins. Even in Batman and Robin Joel Schumacher and hack-master general Akiva Goldsman went to some sort of length to create token origins that made sense in the universe they were depicting. Were they good? No, of course they werent. But in saying that, none of their origin stories were as bad as having a woman get pushed out a window and then havingwell its not entirely clear what happened next. Did magic cats just lick her back to life? And did this make her part cat? Because she really seems to love...milk. But then thats weird because most cats are lactose intolerant. And, does she now have nine lives? How? Why? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4hP6qoHxV1Q If they were particularly generous a first year film student might be able to glean from all this, some sort of weak artistic symbolism that is meaningless in the grand scheme of things. But based on Burtons own antipathy for the source material, and his general lack of interest in the details, its probably safe to say that Catwoman was given her powers becausereasons.
