7 Mistakes Marvel Has Already Made With Phase Three

2. It's Too Early To See Doctor Strange

Okay, bear with me on this one. I know that getting walking meme generator and unintentional otter impersonator Benedict Cumberbatch on board is something of a coup for Marvel, especially as they can basically start counting the money they'll make from Doctor Strange before it even begins shooting, but we can't help but think it might have been wise to hold this one back a bit. We're sure Cumberbatch will do great things alongside eager director Scott Derrickson and an exciting support cast (Chiwetel Ejiofor and Mads Mikkelsen anyone?), but the problem rests with the world that Strange inhabits. The MCU is already juggling the world of Earth-science with the mythological presence of Asgardians and the more traditional sci-fi of the Guardians Of The Galaxy, Thanos and the Chitauri so it's hard to believe that what it really needs to do before The Mad Titan Thanos gets off his throne to f*ck up the planet and its heroes is to introduce a whole new world of mysticism and sorcery. True the Scarlet Witch may have had mystical powers but they were the result of cosmically powered science; Doctor Strange is on a different plane entirely, often literally, as he navigates the Astral Plane with out of body projections. It's heady stuff, and handled right could be great for Marvel's ambitions moving forward. It would probably suit a darker tone too, but even with Derrickson's horror background it's safe to assume that Doctor Strange's world will likely be more unsettling than horrifying. All of which would have made it the perfect place to kick off Phase Four instead of squeezing it in before Infinity War, especially as Cumberbatch is pretty much perfect to take the place of the stars and heroes we've come to know so far who will presumably be taking a back seat after Thanos meets his end.
