1. Why Do Enemies' Explosive Devices Always Have Timers?
Possibly the funniest flaw seen in action movies is why explosive devices have a timer. I know for some movies they need a specific time to be out of the blast range, but why not just have a remote detonator? James Bond earns its third mention on here, but I must stress the films in reference are under 'actor' Pierce Brosnan. The James Bond franchise bucked up their act on the newest movies, and haven't dared to feature such gimmicks as timed explosives. Or indeed a sun-laser death machine, an invisible car, a Rupert Murdoch parody or Denise Richards, but that's the subject for another article. Action movies make you believe enemies are tweaked in the head which they well might be but to the extent where they want to string the hero along knowing he cannot stop the course of action about to happen. As it is, they seem contractually bound to give the protagonist a glimmer of hope in the meantime, which surely wouldn't be the case in real life. Speaking hypothetically of course, if there was any chance my plan to destroy the world could be thwarted, I wouldn't waste any time stalling. Surely these criminals became so prolific in their line of work by getting the job done, not by talking somebody's ear off? A key example here would be Watchmen, where world's-smartest-man Ozymandias lives up to his lofty billing by starting the countdown before the heroes even know such a countdown exists. Indeed, he seems positively baffled at the merest implication he would delay on his plans until his fancily-dressed brethren show up and attempt to thwart him. Now that's a man with a plan. I'll never understand why any criminal would consider jeopardising what they have dreamed about for years just for the sake of a pointless chat with a person they have no reason to be speaking to. Both want the other dead, but needlessly quell their hatred so the audience are spoon-fed the storyline. It's all a little baffling, to be honest.
