7 Most Exciting New Additions To Thor: Ragnarok

5. Taika Waititi - Director

Ok, this one is a slight cheat, since it's not a character appearing in the film (unless he has a cameo, in which case this is 100% fine), but there's no denying that choosing Taika Waititi as the director of Thor: Ragnarok is an intriguing and exciting choice.

With Alan Taylor not wanting to return (and no one really asking him to), the search for the person to helm Ragnarok reportedly considered the likes of Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) and Rawson Marshall Thurber (who was previously linked with Ant-Man). Eventually, they settled on Waititi, whose best known film to date is vampire comedy What We Do In The Shadows.

It's not a film that exactly screams Marvel movie, but he's obviously a talented director, and he should be able to pitch the humour of the film just right. It'll be interesting to see how he handles moving up to a big-budget and heavy special effects work, which isn't necessarily an easy transition to make, but his other work gives reason to believe he's the breath of fresh air the Thor franchise needs.
