If there is a concrete example of how not to do a sequel involving time travel, this is it. Following rapidly diminishing interest and quality levels in the preceding entries (Judgement Day clearly excluded), The Terminator franchise placed a greater emphasis on time travel, and suffered markedly as a result.

While there are examples on this list of ret-conning working well to reinvent a flagging series, why anyone thought the idea of undoing the events of the perfect Terminator original was a good one is a real head scratcher. While seeing two Arnies belt the living daylights out of each other looked great, everything else about this film's premise crashed and burned in spectacular fashion.

The overly convoluted script and complicating of the series previously straight forward premise undoes any fun that can be had here, although the acting also doesn't help. Emilia Clarke looks and sounds like a pale imitation of Linda Hamilton's previously epic Sarah Connor, while Jai Courtenay's impersonation of Kyle Reece is just embarrassing.

Making John Connor a bad guy is a dreadful decision, and while there are some half decent special effects, the totally un-gripping finale and poor attempts to set up a sequel put a final nail in the coffin of the franchise. A dishonourable mention must also go to Terminator: Dark Fate, killing off John Connor in the first two minutes a cinematic tragedy.
