7 Reasons Ghostbusters: Afterlife Won't Revive The Franchise
3. Not Enough Paul Rudd
A big draw for the new Ghostbusters movie will surely be Paul Rudd, who, from the looks of the trailer, is set to deliver his familiar every-man shtick. However, it’s also insinuated that Rudd will be playing more of a supporting role to the main story of the kids, and as a result may leave many disappointed.
When it was originally announced that he would be in Ghostbusters: Afterlife, rumours circulated that Paul Rudd would be an actual Ghostbuster. It was an idea that sent a wave of excitement across Ghostbusters and Paul Rudd fans alike.
However, when the trailer dropped, that enticing prospect faded, as Rudd now looks positioned to be more of a mentor to the kids who go on to become mini-Ghostbusters. Let’s hope that’s just a swerve, and that we do get to see him suit up with his very own proton pack.
Paul Rudd has become a hugely bankable star and almost universally liked, even standing out as a highlight in the biggest movie ever; Avengers: Endgame. It would be a mistake for the filmmakers to not use him prominently in Afterlife, as he may be one of the movie’s few lifelines in reigniting the franchise.
