7 Sequels That Changed Everything We Thought We Knew About The Villain

5. Michael Myers - Halloween Franchise

We don’t get much information on Michael Myers from the first Halloween film. We know he’s an escaped psychopath who wants to kill Laurie Strode and he’s tougher to take down than a Terminator made from Nokia phones.

The sequel doubles down on his character by revealing him to in fact be Laurie’s older brother. Suddenly, his motive and never-ending assault are personalised, and made all the more terrifying for it.

As more of Michael’s character is explored deeper and deeper through the sequels, we begin to see some cracks of humanity filtering through the mask of the monster, with Myers even shedding a single tear for his victim in Halloween 5.

It was a bold move to add layers to Myers through the series, and although he loses that element of being an 'unnatural force of nature' that is present in the first film, his characterisation adds greater levels of intrigue throughout the series.
