7 Sport Stars Who Tried To Break Hollywood

Back in the eighties, English football was properly insane. Unlike today, where the Premier League product is a glossy brand, packaged and sold as family-friendly entertainment to billions across the world, football in the eighties was like a Ken Loach film. Gritty, real and populated by men who you wouldn't be surprised bumping into in your local pub on a Saturday night, either because they were drinking, or because they were working the door as a bouncer. Vinnie Jones was such a man that fell into both of those categories.

Jones, who spent most of his career working essentially as a hired goon for Wimbledon and Leeds (although credit where credit's due, he had some decent skills too), made an unlikely pitch for Hollywood in the nineties. Yes, the world's least convincing Welshman, actually made a pretty convincing east-end thug in Guy Ritchie's Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. He followed that up with more hit films such as Snatch, Gone In Sixty Seconds and crazily, he even played Juggernaut in the third X-Men film, The Last Stand.

He's still at it too, popping up in just about everything and anything and he's a constant reminder to every footballer today, that there could be an unlikely career in Hollywood waiting for them when they hit retirement. So Crouchy, go get yourself an acting agent, son. Because you too could be a movie star. Well, maybe.
