2. World Leaders Surrender Their Nukes...To Zartan - G.I. Joe: Retaliation
The Decision: While impersonating the President of the United States, Zartan fires the entire U.S. nuclear payload into the sky and detonates them, encouraging the rest of the world leaders to do the same and start anew free of mutually assured destruction. After a few moments of bemusement, the countries all fall in line, and the world's nuclear arsenal is quickly depleted.
Why It's Stupid: Seconds later, Zartan reveals Project Zeus, his own series of satellites which contain massive bombardment rods. He fires one upon Central London, completely leveling it and no doubt killing millions. Aside from being an incredibly shocking and surprisingly clever moment (on the part of the villain, anyway) in an otherwise dumb-as-a-rock movie, it also suggested that among the collective nations of the world, not a single leader was smart enough to anticipate that destroying all the nukes, given that nuclear materials are
always going to exist, is kind of a bad idea. I'm all for nuclear disarmament
in theory, but you have to think about the consequences of doing it, and they ain't always flowers and cake.
