2. Four Weddings And A Funeral: The Funeral
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_a-eXIoyYA How could I be surprised by a sad bit in a movie with the word 'Funeral' in the title? Its a bit like saying that I walked out of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre because it all got a bit too gory. No, I knew one of the characters was going to be buried going into the movie, but I didnt know who nor how excellently heart wrenching John Hannahs funeral oration would be. When I first watched this movie as a teenager it was the first time I had seen just how well the love between two men could be portrayed on film. To be honest, even until today it still is one of the best depictions of the end of any loving relationship I have seen in a movie marketed as a laugh out loud comedy. Set against grey clouds and industrial landscapes, the sense of foreboding was tangible in the funeral scene, but it was the choice of poem and its delivery which made a real connection. Great stuff.
