5. Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade
Heres a perfect example of where remaking an original film isn't necessarily a bad thing. Raiders had proved a massive smash and Spielberg went with the bold decision of prequel for Temple Of Doom. Well made, but lacking the fun (and non-annoying female lead) of the original, it didn't hit as hard at the box office. So the director made the wise decision to return more to the Raiders formula for the third film. In a fit of unoriginality, Last Crusade, pits Indy in a race against the Nazis to find an ancient artifact. With exotic locales, the fight between using the artifact for war or research and even some of the Raiders cast reprising their roles, its a spiritual mirror of the first movie. What stops so much criticism being levied against the film is that the Indy fun was restored; its impossible to watch without a big grin on your face. You could argue Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull, with the Nazis reappropriated as Russians, is in the same category, but it actually brings a lot of new things to the table. Whether thats good or not is decided by how much you love CGI gophers.
